MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY on October 23

On Saturday, October 23, Kids Against Hunger-Fox Valley set another new record in packing 14,256 meals to help make a difference in the campaign against hunger. Volunteers included 39 adults and 27 youth to really make a difference.

On Monday, Oct. 25 they added 13 pallets of food (92,664 meals) from Kids Against Hunger - Fox Valley to four pallets from Rockford and three from Janesville, WI, for a total of 142,560 meals destined for Nicaragua. These were loaded on a truck provided through Hull Brothers Trucking in Mason City, IL for shipment to Harrisburg, NC. This food will be loaded on a container with other items and should be in Nicaragua shortly. The food packed in October will probably be eaten by hungry children and a few adults in Nicaragua before the end of the year.

Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.

Millions have participated. In 2009, 3 million people cared enough about their communities to volunteer on that day, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns.

You can also contribute toward the $7200 cost for the meals packed in October. This has caused KAH-FV to dig into the reserves and more funding needs to come in to continue the Open packing events. Every little bit helps.

Join A Packing Event

To reserve space at a packing event, please click on the event title. That will open a booking page with more details about the event and fields in which to enter your name, email address and phone number. You may make reservations for one or two people.

Packaging Events will last for one hour each (with the option to participate in more than one). Each volunteer will package $40 to $50 worth of food per hour. Volunteers are urged to bring whatever they can toward that cost.

Most packaging events are held in a building donated by Harris Banks of Roselle across the road from Friendly Ford. To get to the packaging event location, turn on to Lawrence at the Harris Bank, 400 E. Irving Park Road, Roselle. Quickly turn right as if entering the Drive-In facility and the warehouse building is seen at the rear of the property with a "Kids Against Hunger – Fox Valley” sign on the door.
